Homegrown Cone creates mixed-to-order soft serve – a delicious blend of Waimea Creamery ice cream or Nicoco vegan coconut gelato and fruit grown by independent farmers on Hawai'i Island. Our seasonal flavor selection reflects the incredible diversity of tropical fruit, from classics like mango and lilikoi to exotics like soursop and jaboticaba.

We’re Jessica and Darren, small farmers and creators of Homegrown Cone. Though we are transplants to Hawai’i Island, we aspire to honor the Kānaka Maoli values of caring for the land (Mālama ʻĀina) and caring for one another (Mālama Kekahi i Kekahi) in our life and work.

Our hope is to contribute to a resilient community, a healthy environment, and a thriving local economy, all while promoting the unique agricultural products of this beautiful island to its residents and visitors.

What makes your ice cream different?

We are the only ice cream shop on the Big Island mixing exclusively 100% Hawai'i island-grown fruit with locally-produced ice cream or vegan coconut gelato. Watch as we blend your choices of freshly-frozen fruit and ice cream base to order to create the smoothest, freshest-tasting fruit ice cream you've ever tried.

Can I create custom flavors?

Yes, this is encouraged! You can combine up to two different fruits in any size. Some popular combinations are Mango + Lilikoi, Apple Banana + Meyer Lemon, or Papaya + Tahitian Lime. Or, tell us what makes your mouth water and let our scoopah troopahs recommend a special combo to tantalize your tastebuds.

Currently, our Coffee and Roasted Cacao Nibs are only available pre-blended in our Grab and Go size, so these flavors cannot be combined with other flavors (although we do offer a Coffee + Cacao option for a mocha chocolate chip vibe).

Where do you source your fruit?

Some of our fruit (lilikoi, apple banana, and pineapple) is grown on our own farm just up the slope of Hualalai volcano in Holualoa. The remainder is sourced directly from small, independent farmers on the island. Our roasted cacao nibs and coffee are also grown and produced locally (and yes, they are technically fruit!).

Where do you source your ice cream and gelato?

Our premium dairy ice cream is produced for us by Waimea Creamery, and our vegan coconut gelato is produced by Nicoco Hawaiian Gelato in Hilo.

Do you have vegan and/or dairy-free options?

Yes! We can blend any of our ingredients with dairy-free vegan gelato.

Does your ice cream or gelato contain eggs?

No! All of our bases are egg-free.

Is your ice-cream and gelato gluten-free?

Yes! All of our bases are gluten-free.

Do you have parking available?

Yes! We provide 90 minutes of validated parking for the Ka'u Coffee Mill parking lot, located directly makai (towards the ocean) from their cafe.

Do you have seating available?

Yes! We have chairs and tables for you to enjoy the ocean breezes under a shady overhang.

Is your packaging compostable?

Yes! All of our cups, lids, napkins, and spoons are 100% compostable. Return them to us when you're done and we will take them to our farm to turn them into more delicious fruit!
